Nitrous Oxide Sedation

Woman with nitrous oxide nasal mask

You likely know nitrous oxide by another name: “laughing gas.” This gentle sedation method has been successfully used for over 100 years, and it still helps patients in our endodontic office today. The colorless, odorless gas is administered through a small nasal mask, and after just a few minutes of breathing it in, a patient will feel all of their concerns simply melt away into a sea of relaxation. Even better, once the mask is removed, the gas’ effects dissipate very quickly, enabling a patient to go straight back to their day without any lasting drowsiness.

Oral Conscious Sedation

For patients who experience more severe dental anxiety, Dr. Barr can prescribe them a pill to take about an hour before their scheduled visit. That way, by the time they actually reach our endodontic office, they will already be mentally and physically relaxed. Under this form of sedation, a patient will remain awake for the entire appointment, but time will seem to fly by very quickly, and they likely will have little to no memory of their visit afterward (which is just fine for some of our patients!).
